Yep, this list has some of my favorite AUDs. I'd throw up some more, but I don't want to overwhelm our new friend. And I also hope that some of our "SBD Only" folks will take some time to really give a listen to a few of these and re-consider.

Well, of course i would prefer SBD, but from what i understand you cant get them here(to download to Ipod)...im just trying to fill my IPOD with the best possible Grateful Dead SOUNDING shows. Some people like audience downloads......i personally dont like them at all.Who would?....but i found that list you posted from that site, most of them are crap. I think the guy was just putting up his Personnal favorite shows...I KNOW there is some great sounding auds on here,so ill just keep searching

Great minds.... ;-)

I would also encourage our "newbie" friend to check out 6/22/73 but he said "nothing before '77"...which is too bad since 6/22/73 is my #2 pick for best AUD on this site.

The BirdSong is a top 3 all time, IMO.

Get out of my head. For pre-77 AUD's, the PNE is truly special. Amazing quality for the time and exceptional peformance to boot. I agree that the Birdsong is one of the best ever (IMHO). Also, for pre-77, we can't forget the 8/5+6/71 Hollywood Palladium. Again, quality holds it's own agains many later tapes.

I'm not SBD only, although I much prefer 'em, but I'll tell you what, that damn MOTB arbuthnot put up last week made me reconsider everything. Holy smokes, that was unbelievable.

Oh, and to the OP-- welcome to the Dead! You'll take some razzing for the "no pre-'77" bit," maybe, but that's just part of the fun. Go for what moves you for starters. The incarnations of other eras have a way of revealing their magic slowly, over time. Except the 90's. ; )

as a deadhead my favorite way of getting to know the music and listening to it is to come to this website and click the link for shows on this day in history and listening to some grrrreat clips everyday. and if there was no show on this day in history then playing from the recently reviewed section.

that's usually what I do - go to today's shows but then someone like SDH will post a show and I might give that a listen first, or check out ongoing thread for "best day job" [oxymoron?] or the like (and hopefully not find any pics of dire's bovine loves)

Was going to crack wise about the list been blank, BUT will refrain.

You should defn check out a few 70s AUDs like 8-6-71 and 6-17-75; there are many, many more, but those are darn fine. Folks here will be able to tell you about those post 77; and if you search on "great AUDs" and other terms using the search function for "forum" above you should find some older threads that cover the lists you seek.

just check out the Grateful Dead podcast on iTunes. They are all high quality and free. Not a bad one in the bunch if you know what mean. I'm going to have to upgrade my computer's memory I have so many stacked up! And by the way, iPhones and Dead shows go great together! Have fun!
